Who am I and what do I do
I am a qualified Person-Centred Counsellor in Private Practice that will work with you integratively. I am currently based in Northampton and I started on my counselling path in 2005 and realised that this was what I wanted to do; help and support people. On this journey, I have had the privilege of supporting clients who have overcome difficult life events and by working together it has enabled them to move forward in their lives. Making a decision to have counselling is the first step for positive change; and yes it might feel scary. Working in a safe space and not feeling judged, will allow you to understand your own feelings and emotions and will enable you to make choices for you and your future.
I have previously gained a vast amount of work experience at the Rape Crisis Centre in Northampton in the capacity as a volunteer during my placement and employed in the role as a Volunteer coordinator/Counsellor. I supported men and women who experienced sexual assault or historic Child Abuse; it was challenging work, yet, I was very honored to be with them on this difficult journey. To see men and women finally see themselves as survivors and not victims, was very humbling.
I also have the valued experience supporting clients at Mind in Milton Keynes, and worked with varied emotional impacting issues e.g. abuse, anxiety, depression, loss, bereavement, relationship break downs, self-harm and many other emotional impacting experiences that life throws at us.
WORKING ONLINE
What is online counselling?
Online counselling is a way for you to engage in counselling using internet technology such as Zoom webcam video link. You direct your counselling, you choose the time, the place and the pace of your counselling to suit your needs.
How it works Zoom is a way for you to see your counsellor face-to-face from your computer while engaging in therapy. You will be guided through setting up your own encrypted Zoom account if needed and you will meet me at a time we have previously arranged. Your session duration is 50 minutes; please arrive on time for your session, as I cannot extend your session. You do not need a webcam for online counselling and you may choose to remain anonymous should you wish.
Webcam or audio counselling
Zoom is a way for you to see your counsellor face to face from your computer whilst engaging in therapy. Being able to see your counsellor gives you more of the benefits you get from face-to-face counselling but with the convenience of online therapy. By talking, you hear tone of voice which is a way to convey empathy and by video you see non-verbal communications such as facial expressions.
Online counselling offers certain benefits but there are also limitations that are worth bearing in mind when deciding which type of therapy will best suit your needs.
